Nikwasi Mound, Franklin, North Carolina, Platinum/Palladium, 5x7 prints

I first photographed Nikwasi in March of 2003. It was the site of a Cherokee village. The mound was once much larger and, like many other mounds, was the platform on which a council house stood, where the sacred flame was kept. The mound is owned by the Macon County Historical Society.
